Sparkling Lights and Hidden Gems
Winter 2014

It’s officially the holiday season in Half Moon Bay and there couldn’t be a better place to spend time than the Oceano Hotel and Spa in Pillar Point Harbor. Many will say fall is the most beautiful time of year in Half Moon Bay because the morning fog burns away and the sun shines the warmest. Half Moon Bay is one of those rare places that is the perfect place to be year round. In the summer when the fog creeps over the bluffs and through the coastal mountain range, it’s breathtaking. In the fall, when the sun shines and warms your skin and the swells lure surfers to the beaches, it’s beautiful. In winter and spring when the rain beats down and the clouds swirl over the dark ocean, it’s incredible. We are lucky to be located in what is arguably, a hidden gem of the Northern California Coast. Where else can one be so close to a major city like San Francisco yet still be surrounded by organic farmland and world famous surf?

The Oceano Hotel and Spa is the sparkling light in the hidden gem of Half Moon Bay. Unassuming and perhaps too modest, the hotel is located in the center of Pillar Point Harbor and offers travelers luxurious accommodations with the small town charm of Half Moon Bay. Pillar Point Harbor is a hub of activity where coastal admirers can surf, kayak, horseback ride, hike Mavericks bluffs, bike coastal trails, and whale watch, all in one day! The Coastal Spa at the Oceano is a relaxing and rejuvenating option if you’re looking for a couple’s massage, seaweed detoxifying wrap or cleansing facial. The spa is located onsite and offers an array of organic products.

After a long day of activities, guests can walk to Mezzaluna Italian Restaurant, sip on local ales at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, or enjoy a world famous lobster roll at Sam’s Chowder House. The Harbor is also where most locals enjoy a buzzing nightlife and live music at The Old Princeton Landing. The Oceano Bar and Grill in the hotel lobby is also open for casual coastal cuisine all day or that last night cap before bed. Each guestroom has a fireplace and private balcony if room service and a glass of wine by the fire is more your style.

Summer’s end means Half Moon Bay’s historic Main Street is dazzling in lights, visitors bustle through shops with unique gifts and sample local fare. Oh the food! Fall is for pumpkins and winter is artichoke and Dungeness crab season here. Local restaurants feature these and pair them with fresh sourdough bread, locally produced goat cheese, Napa and Sonoma wines, and locally grown Brussel sprouts. Half Moon Bay is truly a wonderland for foodies!

I encourage anyone looking for a fun weekend getaway, corporate meeting venue, or holiday get-together to choose Half Moon Bay. The Oceano’s prime location and numerous indoor and outdoor event spaces make it perfect for any event, year round. We have dedicated event coordinators at the hotel who will help with every detail from audio visual to custom menus for any dietary need. Come by any time for a tour or for lunch at the Bar and Grill, you’ll be glad you did! Happy Holidays to you and yours from the Oceano Hotel and Spa in beautiful Half Moon Bay!
